I got this idea from a book called Endwar, where the mines are arayed in rows and if one blows up the one behind moves forward or wherever the controller wants, how about a similar idea for spaceship? Have the standard armor but underneath layers of armor capable of being moved around underneath the ship to say repair a gap quick or if your charging head on move some to the front for some better protection. P.S. More of a question, you say there are flak guns, but do they damage an area or go on forever until embeded in the ships because in space there is no gravity or resistance so shouldnt that mean of you generate a flak wall it could if given enough time hit an unlucky fighter on the other side of the arena and maybe even yourself?
that sounds like a description of reactive armor.

as for being mobile, that doesn't sound very practical. how will they be moved? why not just have layers of static armor instead?
The idea is that there is a normal static layer but on the outside you have rails that are attaches to a much thicker, heavier armor that you could move to areas of the ship that would be considered in the most danger, Due to the fact that in real life, you couldn't really make every ship out of a Titanium alloy this would be a fair bit cheaper to use at the cost of making it harder to turn so this would problably be seen on cap ships...
