Today we're showing off another FCA capital ship: the destroyer class.
This warship is more than 200 meters long and it's a severe threat for both enemy capital ships as well as enemy fighters. The first is easy said by the next image:
This class holds within half of its lenght, the same caliber class of guns that is turret-mounted on the bigger
frigate. This allows a relatively small vessel to be very effective against larger enemy targets.
However due to the compact size of the ship, coaxial's gun range is shorter than the turret mounted version; this forces the destroyer to get closer, and exposed, to its objective.
This ship also packs a very effective anti-fighter relay of four turrets, leaving it to be dangerous even in close-combat events.
All this power comes to a price: storage. Commanders will be called to choose between armor or ammunitions. Both the oversized hull-mounted cannon as well as the four flak turrets allow tremendous fire power but for short periods of time, forcing this ship to call for support or abandon the battlefield to replenish its weapons.
Above you can see the hi-poly version of the model followed by the most detailed lod used ingame.
Ships dimensions are 212m lenght; 44m width; 48 max height.
Finally we are currently debating how to name this ship. How about a poll to decide it?
cool
I love seeing more and more of this game.
Is that hole in the front a gun or an engine? either way it looks awesome

Haha BIG GUNS! <3
Gogogo on with that nice work!
There is a kind of lizzard in the desert, whitch can sprinkle blood from his eyes what is effective in close range, after the lizzard has been discovered by its "enemy". The theory of the front cannon resembles to that. The lizzards latin name is "Phrynosoma", and the latin order name of lizzards is "Sauria". If you put it together it can be: Phrynosaur or Phrynosauria. (The second one sounds more like a ship name, the first one is likes the name of the class... or, i dont know... "spaceship grammar for dummies"

Yep I know the animal and the idea is good. However if you think about it we already are using reptilian names for the Coalition faction (well, until now you've seen only the Alligator fighter but we have much more to show and until now all those use reptilian/sauria name) so I guess that we'd better look to names outside from the.. hm, i've got an idea.
An animal with such an hole in the front and with the shape of this destroyer could be the lamprey! Maybe I sorted things out, what do you think?

I think the lamprey has a nasty parasite behaviour, and less a destroyer or at least battle oriented, but i also understand if you need less reptilians. I will thinking about this.
Maybe this one: "Mordacia mordax" - short-headed (Australian) lamprey:

(Mord... mort, death, battle.. hihi.)
Honestly, I think the back of the ship could use some loving touch, it looks sort of bulky compared to the rest of it. Maybe it's too short or small, I dunno. It doesn't look balanced to me. As for it shape, I think it resembles a barracuda, which would make a great name. I'm loving the big cannon already.

You've neither seen the rear...
Also barracuda fits well, maybe even more than lamprey we'll have to think about it thanks for your suggestions!

Yet another beautiful capital ship design. I like the balance you have on this one: Small and deadly, but needs to get close and personal to deal its load. Which makes me wonder a couple things...
Is this ship marginally faster than other larger capital ships?
As for the name... It's a small, deadly capital ship with a lot of close range kick. Barracuda could work, or Piranha. I keep thinking of that forward coaxial cannon as a mouth loaded with teeth. XD
If I was going to go with a wind-ish name, I'd probably suggest Microburst or a variation of the name.

I'd say it fits.
